TEZPUR: In a momentous ruling, the fast track court, Sonitpur led by Additional District and Sessions Judge Nishanta Goswami in Tezpur, has sentenced a murder suspect from Rangapara in Sonitpur district to life imprisonment and levied a Rs. 5,000 fine. Failing to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment. The case involves Sonaram Mardi, who surrendered on August 15, 2022, after beheading Boila Hemram.
The trial, session case No-01/2023, proceeded swiftly within 40 days, based on the charge sheet submitted by Rangapara police on September 29, 2022, all within a remarkable 40-day period.
The court urged the District Legal Services Authority, Sonitpur, to explore compensating the deceased’s wife. The timely dispensation of justice, just 13 months after the heinous incident, is appreciated by the victim’s family.
