Litchi Day celebrated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Sonitpur district

A day-long programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Napam, Sonitpur on the occasion of Litchi Day celebration in the Agnigarh FPC Parua Chariali office campus.

TEZPUR: A day-long programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Napam, Sonitpur on the occasion of Litchi Day celebration in the Agnigarh FPC Parua Chariali office campus.

A total of 55 litchi farmers participated in the programme. The inaugural speech was given by Angana Sarma, i/c Head, KVK Sonitpur. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Director, ATARI Zone VI, was the chief guest in the programme. Dr. Rajesh Kumar in his speech praised the members of Agnigarh FPC for their grand success in exporting GI tagged Tezpur Litchi to London.

'Tezpur Litchi' has attained the GI tag – an incontrovertible proof of their origin in the State, protecting them from production elsewhere. These litchis are known for its excellent quality, pleasant flavour, juicy pulp with attractive red colour.

He also discussed various problems faced by the litchi farmers, especially lack of processing units for value addition of litchi and litchi harvesting equipment. Dr Kumar also visited litchi farms of the locality. The litchi farmers provided their valuable feedback and the programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by Sarmistha Borgohain, PAC, KVK, Sonitpur.
