LAKHIMPUR: The Telahi-Kamalaboriya Anchalik Sakha Xahitya Xabha of Lakhimpur district, one of the noted branch units of Axam Xahitya Xabha, held its regular literary and cultural event, titled as Gharua Mel on Wednesday in a befitting manner. The event of this month was hosted by its members Jayanta Hazarika and Nijara Kalita at their residential premises located at Halowajan village.

The agenda of the programme started with the presentation of a chorus song led by vocal artiste Nijara Kalita. It was chaired by Lohit Chandra Khaond, the president of the literary body, while secretary Mintu Sarmah explained the objective of the programme. The plantation drive organized in this connection in the local area was inaugurated by former president Nila Chutia.

In the programme, prominent poets, writers Dulal Dutta, Haren Hazarika, Pronita Saikia Borah, Ikheswar Borah, Powal Gogoi, Prabin Saikia, Makhan Saikia, Dilip Kumar Gogoi, Anuj Kumar Bhuyan, Dibyajyoti Hazarika, Lohit Chandra Khaond recited self composed poems. Radio artiste Satya Nath Phukan presented a caricature event. In addition to them, a group of promising students also took part in the programme by reciting their self-composed poems, reading out their short stories and articles on current affairs.

In the cultural events, Borgeet was performed by Jonali Dutta, while Dimli Saikia and Rupsikha Borah presented Jyoti Sangeet, Gunjan Devi presented Rabha Sangeet, Anushka Saikia, Dhiraj Hazarika, Ananya Das presented modern songs, Surabhi Gayan presented creative dance item. On the other hand, two cultural groups led by Dudumoni Das and Chumchumi Kalita presented Diha Nam in the programme. In connection with the event, a series of competitions on the traditional sports of the State were also organized among the children. In the programme, resolution was taken to create an environment favourable for literary practices and to herald cultural revolution in the area.
