LAKHIMPUR: Prominent literary personality Dhanada Devi donated a sum of Rs. 2,00,000 to the relief fund of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). She has donated the sum to provide study expenses to two students of the department belonging to poor families and to confer the annual Jononi Award.
Dhanada Devi is the alumna of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). She handed over the cheque of the sum to Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Head of the Department of Assamese, on Wednesday in a programme held in the college. The programme was attended by Dr Hemanta Sarmah and Dr Dheeraj Pator. Dhanada Devi has instituted an award in fond memory of her mother, titled as Pona Devi Sowarani Jononi Bota, to confer it on the best graduate of the Department of Assamese of the college. The award has been conferred on the student concerned for the last couple of years. Dr Biman Chandra Chetia, the Principal of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), extended heartfelt gratitude to Dhanada Devi for her magnanimity.
