Litterateur Dr. Manujendra Syam passes away in Silchar

Dr. Manujendra Syam, reputed physician, Rabindra culturist and litterateur of Barak Valley, passed away on Tuesday morning

Silchar: Dr. Manujendra Syam, reputed physician, Rabindra culturist and litterateur of Barak Valley, passed away on Tuesday morning at his Ukilpatty residence in Silchar. He was 90 and was ill for the last two months. He died of age old ailments. His wife and only daughter were by his bed side when he breathed his last. Dr Syam was well respected and well admired for his literary activities, particularly Rabindra literature. Research workers and scholars always consulted him for their project works. He was also regarded as a source of information about journalism and journalists of the past of Barak and Surma Upatyaka (Barak-Surma valley). The death of Dr Syam cast a pall of gloom and shock in the cultural and literary circles of the valley. Dr Amalendu Bhattacharjee, scholar, described Dr Syam as 'a doyen of literature.' His departure has created a void which is difficult to fill, said Parthapratim Das, an admirer of Syam.
