Litterateur & former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha Jogesh Das remembered

DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX), a commemorative meeting of Jogesh Das, former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) and a Sahitya Akademi award-winning litterateur, was held at DSXX Bhabani on Wednesday, along with felicitation of meritorious students of HSLC and HS examination.

The programme got underway with lighting of the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of the litterateur by president of DSXX, Bimala Baruah. The chief speaker, Prakash Dutta spoke briefly about the life and achievements of litterateur Das, who was born and brought up in Hansara TE near here. Dhiren Deka, president of Assam Science Writers' Association (ASWA), spoke about the distinguished position held by Jogesh Das in Assamese literature as the writer of the lone novel Dawar Aru Nai (There is cloud no more) in the backdrop of the Second World War.

The meeting was also addressed by Arjun Baruah, president of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, and was attended by Prabin Mazumdar, former Headmaster of Doomdooma Bangiya Vidyalaya and Sangeeta Barkakati, Headmistress, Doomdooma Girls' High School. Altogether 29 HSLC passed students and five HSLC passed students securing more than 80 per cent marks in Assamese subject were felicitated in the meeting. Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha also observed Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika's birth anniversary on Tuesday.
