SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
SILCHAR: Abhinava, a nine year boy and a student of class three in Delhi Public School Silchar, has dreamt of creating greenery around his native village of Chhtojalenga, 20 km from here, under Dholai constituency of Cachar. In order to make his dream come true, he started plantation on his birthday on July 2 and has set a target of 1000 trees. This, the boy feels, will meet the oxygen crisis caused by degradation in nature.
Abhinava has learnt how oxygen is the elixir of life and how the COVID pandemic has taken lives of many patients on hospital beds struggling for oxygen. He has also leant how oxygen level in our environment is decreasing rapidly. Long closure of school has given Abhinava the time to take to plantation.
Abhinava has been deeply moved to see pathetic and heart-rending photographs of wailing family members over their near and dear ones writhing in breathlessness due to lack of oxygen support in hospitals beamed by national TV channels. The little boy has vowed to go green in his own way. His parents, Ajoy Deb and Bultu Deb, latter an AP member of local GP, are inspiring him to keep his mission going.
Till now, Abhinava has planted 300 trees along the 2.5 km stretch of Chhoto Borjalenga to Nagathal Road. Supported by his parents, he has erected and fortified fencing around each sapling planted. Cachar Forest Division is extending all necessary help to him. Sunnydeo Singh, DFO, is all praise for the little champ whom he wants to make him the 'Icon of Greenery' in Barak Valley. Abhinava might not have heard of Jadav Payeng or Ayodhya Dhobi, but one day he will achieve their grand fete.
