DIGBOI: The local administration decided to take some concrete steps towards the resolution of the traffic woes in Digboi town.
Members of the Digboi Municipal Board along with Digboi police carried out an operation on the streets of the town. Taking into account that a large number of e-rickshaws that have come up in recent times, contribute largely to the traffic woes in the town, the administration along with the police have decided to implement strict measures against them.
As a part of the same, the authorities decided to set up no entries at three locations in the town. As e-rickshaws and autorickshaws will not be allowed to pass through, the traffic on these roads is expected to be much smoother from now on.
The officials from the administration and the police also took action against the vendors who have set up shop illegally. While some of them completely closed the footpaths, some others encroached into the road itself. These violators were warned against repeating such actions again in the future. They also took action against the e-rickshaws which are parked without following any rules and regulations and causing problems to the regular traffic movement. These violators were also warned to follow the traffic rules and not cause congestion on the streets.
The police also put up temporary dividers on certain streets so that vehicles can keep moving in their own lanes without hampering anyone. Usually, vehicles are seen not following lane discipline, which leads to traffic congestion in certain places as well as accidents in the worst-case scenarios. The police officials mentioned that these steps should relieve the traffic woes atleast to a certain extent.
Even the local people said that these steps will help reduce travel time and expressed hope that the public will continue to follow such regulations in the future.
