GUWAHATI: The 'supari killer' who was arrested in connection to the Lumding firing incident died in a police encounter on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Mohan Kumar, was shot dead by cops, allegedly in his bid to shoot at police personnel.
As per reports, on Sunday night, Lumding Police had taken Kumar to the spot where the pistols used in the incident were allegedly hidden. As part of the search drive, the police recovered two hand-made pistols.
However, at one point in time, Kumar tried to escape the police by taking hold of a .32 pistol. Aiming at the personnel, Kumar tried to fire. The bullet however, missed the target and hit a police vehicle.
In their bid to fire back and retaliate, the police fired bullets at Kumar as well, and as a result, Kumar sustained serious injuries during the encounter.
Reportedly, Kumar was taken to a hospital later on, but he succumbed to his injuries and the doctors declared him dead.
The deceased Mohan Kumar reportedly hailed from Bihar.
It is worth mentioning here that Kumar was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in the firing of former railway employee Tarun Chakrabarty, on December 9. He was apprehended with his alleged accomplice, Saheb Rajak.
The duo, as per reports, had fired upon Chakrabarty on a contracted amount of Rs 2 lakhs.
Meanwhile, the mastermind behind the firing incident has been allegedly named as Anil Malakar, another railway employee. Malakar who allegedly was on good terms with Charabarty's brother, had executed the entire incident based on some domestic clashes, as per some other reports.
On Sunday, Mohan Kumar was arrested by New Bongaigaon railway authorities, while he was on his way out of state via the Bikaner Express. He has been, since, termed as a contract killer or 'supari killer.'
