Lurinjyoti Gogoi quits AASU, Sankar Jyoti Baruah becomes the new GS

Lurinjyoti Gogoi will join the newly-formed political party Asom Jatiya Parishad

Guwahati: As anticipated by many, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the general secretary of All Assam Students' Union resigned from his post. During the ongoing 17th General Convention of AASU in Duliajan, Gogoi quit from his role late on Saturday night. Sankar Jyoti Baruah, an executive member of AASU from Duliajan will take the charge as the new general secretary of the students' body.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi is all set to join the Asom Jatiya Parishad, the newly-formed political party by the alliance of AASU and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) in September 2021.

The chief adviser of AASU, Sammujjal Bhattacharya earlier announced on quitting the students' body during its 17th Convention. However, thousands of AASU workers requested Bhattacharya to quit from the organisation and asked him to continue his role in the organisation. Hearing to his fellow AASU workers, Bhattacharya decided to reconsider his decision of quitting the body.

There were a lot of speculations of the president of AASU, Dipankar Nath quitting the organisation. However, he did not quit and continues with his role.

The new general secretary of AASU, Sankar Jyoti Baruah said that he hopes to take forward the legacy of AASU with the contribution of the students' community. He would make efforts to fulfil all the needs of the students' fraternity of Assam.
