LAKHIMPUR: "The stir against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) has not come to an end. It has subsided for the time being due to the coronavirus pandemic situation. The stir will be intensified very soon," declared Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Lakhimpur.
The former general secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) made this declaration while taking part in a public programme organized by Lakhimpur district unit of AASU on Wednesday evening at North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School playground in order to bid farewell to him and finance secretary Krishna Das. Addressing the open session of the programme, Lurinjyoti Gogoi vowed to continue movements for securing the greater interest of the State. In this connection, he said that he would endeavour to usher in unity and integration among the indigenous communities of the State and to safeguard their common interest.
Remarking on Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), he said that the new political party would challenge the 'communally polarized politics' sponsored by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State. He added that he would make it public very soon whether he would lead the AJP from the front. In connection with his speech, he also declared that he would continue stir against big river dams, especially against the Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project being constructed at Gerukamukh by NHPC.
On the other hand, former finance secretary of AASU, Krishna Das also vowed to work for the betterment of the Assamese community, to mitigate the flood and erosion problem, unemployment problem along with other crucial issues of the State.
In addition to the AASU dignitaries, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) central committee assistant general secretary Sourabh Das, dignitaries of the Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Asom and other organizations were present in the programme. The Dhemaji district unit of AASU also bade farewell to Lurinjyoti Gogoi by organizing a public programme in the district on the same day.
