A CORRESPONDENT
DOOMDOOMA: Madhabilata Literary Award for the year 2019-2020 instituted by Madhabilata Literary Trust (MLT) was presented to eminent Assamese litterateur and former acting Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University Dr. Madan Sarma. The award consists of a memento, a citation and a cash of Rs. 10,000. The award giving ceremony was chaired by the Managing Trustee of MLT Atul Chandra Sharma and was attended by Sahitya Academy award winning Assamese litterateur Anuradha Sarma Pujari as chief guest and eminent Assamese poet and litterateur Dr. Nanda Singh Borkola as guest of honour. In her speech as chief guest, eminent writer Anuradha Sarma Pujari lamented that the new generation is inclining more towards the English language.
The other speaker Borkola who is a poet of distinction was apprehensive about the future of Assamese language by saying that if this state of affairs continues, a time would come when Assamese language would be confined to library only. On the other hand the recipient of Madhabilata Award Dr Madan Sarma expressed his concern at distorted Assamese language while telecasting on various channels of electronic media.
