MANGALDAI: The district administration of Darrang has ordered for a magisterial inquiry over the police firing at village Rajapukhuri of 65 Kalaigaon LAC under Dhula Police Station in Darrang district on the night of April 1 in which two persons sustained bullet injuries while the unruly mob caused damage to a government vehicle.
District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Borah vide an order issued on April 2, has entrusted Additional District Magistrate PankajDeka to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the injury of two civilians due to the alleged police firing and to submit a detailed report within seven days.
An untoward incident of mob violence and police firing had occurred at Rajapukhuri LP School premises (Polling Station number 215, 215-A, 216, 217 and 217-A) on the day of polling on April 1, resulting in bullet injury to two civilians, namely Mussaruddin (51) and Ismail Ali (61), both of village Rajapukhuri. Earlier, several security personnel sustained injuries due to stone pelting by unknown goons and miscreants who forcefully entered the polling station and also damaged a government vehicle bearing registration number AS 30 7736. Both the injured persons were immediately shifted to Guwahati for better treatment and both are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the police has registered a case at Dhula Police Station vide number 78/2021 under section 147/148/149/448/332/333/353/394/307/427 of Indian Penal Code read with section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 on the basis of the FIR lodged by constable MussaKalim.
On Friday, a team of office bearers of Bodoland People's Front (BPF) led by former Executive Member and secretary of BPF, JagadishSarkar visited the Rajapukhuri area and interacted with the people of the locality. Talking to The Sentinel, JagadishSarkar condemned the police firing and asked the government to arrange for the required treatment of both the injured villagers. He also welcomed the decision of the district administration to conduct a magisterial inquiry by an Additional District Magistrate.
