DHUBRI: In view of dearth of amusement parks for children in Bilasipara town, a local ardent social worker, Dr Kanu Lal Das, by spending a sizeable amount of money, renovated the almost ruined Mahabir Lachit Sishu Udyan in ward no. 5 under the Bilasipara Municipal Board of the Dhubri district. It was inaugurated and opened for the children recently.

During opening of Mahabir Lachit Sishu Udyan, former legislator of Bilasipara (East) and chairman of the Assam State Marketing Corporation, Dr Ashok Kumar Singhi, while appreciating and praising the selfless and dedicated works of Dr Kanu Lal Das, extended CSR fund of Rs 26.72 lakh from Goutam Construction Pvt Ltd, of which Dr Singhi is also one of the associates. Dr Singhi informed that with this amount of fund, modern toilets and bathrooms will be constructed in Mahabir Lachit Sishu Udyan.

“This Shisu Udayan was constructed in 1999, but over the passage of time due to lack of maintenance it started decaying and the situation had come to such a pass that it was totally abandoned. However, thanks to the large-hearted Dr Kanu Lal Dad who came forward and renovated the entire Shisu Udyan with his own money. He will always be remembered by the people of Bilasipara,” Dr Singhi added.

Earlier, both Dr Kanu Lal Das and Dr Ashok Kumar Singhi formally inaugurated the Udyan and opened the gate and no sooner had the gate opened, hundreds of children entered the Udyan and had fun playing.
