LAKHIMPUR: "Srimanta Sankardev heralded a new era in Assam. He is the scriptor of the renaissance in the State. He was born at a time when Assam, the greater territory of the northeast region witnessed an era of turmoil and social chaos, dominated by superstitious belief and dogmatism. In such a critical juncture, the Mahapurush was born as a saviour for those people who were attached with short lasting earthly pleasures only," said Dr. Binod Chandra Borah, the Registrar of Majuli Cultural University in Dhemaji on Saturday.

Borah said so while delivering the lecture as appointed speaker of the Literary Section's Session of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha organized in connection with the 92nd annual session of the religious organization at Paramananda Ata Samanway Kshetra at Simen Chapori. The session was chaired by Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Literary Section's president Mrinal Kumar Baruah. The event was inaugurated by Literary Section's former president Dr. Jagat Chandra Bonia. As guests of honour, the event was attended by Press Council of India journalist Prakash Dube, the Gandhian leader Hem Bhai, Benaras Hindu University professor Dr. Anu Sabd, editor of 'Maitri' (Maharashtra) Kanchan Bohon. In connection of his lecture, Dr. Binod Chandra Borah further said that Mahapurush Sankardev strengthened the bond of unity among the diversed indigenous communities of Assam by overcoming massive threats and sufferings in order to form the greater Assamese community.

Notably, Paramananda Ata Samanway Kshetra, Sanjari Nwgwr, Simen Chapori, witnessed several lakhs of devotees, followers of Sankardeva's spiritual philosophy on the occasion of the 92nd annual session of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. They arrived at the place, which has at present turned to be another version of heavenly abode with spiritual environment, from different parts of the northeastern States. The second day agenda of the day started with Pratah Prasanga, Nam Prasanga in the early morning. These programmes were followed by the meeting of the Saran Samiti and the conference of the district units' presidents and secretaries and the session of the Literary Section of the organization.

The session of the Cultural Section of the organization commenced from around 2:00 pm and the event was chaired by Cultural Section's president Dr. Suresh Chandra Borah. Professor of Radha Gobinda Baruah College Dr. Mallika Kandali, noted scholar from Puri Pandit Bani Bhusan Shastri and a galaxy of prominent personalities graced the occasion as special guests. Exponent of Sankardev-created culture, Ajit Borah attended the event as appointed speaker and delivered an analytical lecture by highlighting various aspects of the Sankardev-created culture.

In the evening, community prayer, Nam-Prasanga, cultural convention were held. From 6.30 pm, Ankiya Bhaona "Parijat Haran' and Ram-Bijay were staged. It was followed by the delegates' session wherein welcome address was delivered by Jonai MLA-cum-reception committee executive president Bhuban Pegu delivered the welcome address.
