Major inferno in Dhemaji district after oil tanker bursts into flames

A major fire broke out near NH-15 at Chichi Bargaon Chariali in Dhemaji district after an oil tanker turned turtle on the roadside losing control of the wheels

LAKHIMPUR: A major fire broke out near NH-15 at Chichi Bargaon Chariali in Dhemaji district after an oil tanker turned turtle on the roadside losing control of the wheels on Saturday night. At that time, the oil tanker was coming towards Dhemaji town carrying oil from Dibrugarh.

As soon as the tanker turned turtle, massive inferno engulfed the vehicle producing thick fumes of black smoke. Instantly, the flickering flames spread to the several shops nearby the NH-15 and burnt them to ashes.

It is reported that almost 14 shops were damaged in the fire incident. The driver of the vehicle had a narrow escape.

Later, the fire tenders were rushed to the spot from Dhemaji, Silappthar and Dibrugarh to douse the fire and control the blaze from spreading further. It took them more than two hours to douse off the flames.

Notably, road traffic accidents have frequently been reported at the Sissi-Borgaon Chariali as a result of which the local people and organizations have been demanding the authorities to manage spread breakers on NH-15 at the accident prone zones under the area.

Of late, the local unit of the AJYCP has also reportedly submitted demand in this regard to the Circle Officer of the Sissi-Borgaon Revenue Circle. But the authorities concerned have still been seen unmoved regarding the issue which resulted in the damage of assets worth more than crore rupees owned by the affected shopkeepers, businessmen, who generated their employment by their own endeavours.
