Guwahati: The Majuli-Nimatighat ferry has re-opened for service today. Owing to the decrease in the water levels of the Brahmaputra, the district administration has made the decision to resume services of the Majuli-Nimatighat ferry.
This has come as a relief for regular commuters of the ferry who have now gathered at the ferry ghats to use the service. However, only the two-wheelers have been allowed by the district administration to travel following proper Covid-19 protocols.
The service of the Majuli-Nimatighat had previously been suspended for five days due to increasing water levels of the Brahmaputra.
The locals who regularly use the service of Kamalabari, Aflamukh ghat have expressed their relief.
Previously, Assam Chief Minister had announced that night-super buses will begin from run from September 1.
In the new set of SOPs issued on September 1 by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), it was stated that inter-district transport service can be resumed with 100% seating capacity, with few restrictions.
This has come as a piece of good news for those who are only able to travel at night, owing to strict work schedules and other reasons.
