LAKHIMPUR: Strong demand has been raised in Lakhimpur district in order to make railway services total functional.
In this context, the activists of the Lakhimpur district unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) initiated massive protest programme at North Lakhimpur Railway Station on Friday. By staging the protest, the political party demanded the governments and the Northeast Frontier Railway to resume the plying of all passenger trains connecting Lakhimpur district.
During the demonstration, the protesters shouted slogans to restart the service of Dekargaon-Murkongselek Passenger Train, Guwahati-Naharlagun-Dibrugarh Passenger Train, Dekargaon-Lakhimpur-Dibrugarh Passenger Train, Guwahati-Naharlagun-Dibrugarh Shatabdi Express. On the other hand, the political party demanded the Railway Department to add more coach in Lachit Express along with extra couch for female passengers.
By initiating the same protest programme, the political party demanded to introduce a Shatabdi Express from Lakhimpur to Guwahati and to make the New Delhi and South India connecting Passenger Trains functional.
Notably, the Railway Department suspended the passenger train services due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown during the second wave of contagion. At present, the services of only four passenger trains have been functional to Lakhimpur despite relaxation of many restrictions.
