GUWAHATI: A man has been arrested by police with one handmade pistol and ammunition from Haibargaon in Nagaon. As per police records, the man Ashadul Islam is a history sheeter.
Nagaon police shared about the incident of arrest on Twitter on Tuesday. The post said police conducted an operation and nabbed Ashadul Islam with a handmade pistol and live ammunition. Ashadul is a history sheeter and has involvement in many crimes like dacoity and robberies.
The Assam police has apparently been "in overdrive" ever since Himanta Biswa Sarma became the chief minister of the state. Several operations have been carried out by the law enforcement agencies and miscreants apprehended in the past two to three months. Many suspected criminals have been injured and killed too, after they tried escaping from police custody.
In August, an arms smuggler was gunned down by police in Karimganj district after the smuggler tried to flee from their custody. The deceased smuggler Nurul Islam was arrested by police and border security force jawans a few days before the incident. Four pistols and mazagines and a pen pistol were recovered from his possession.
In the first week of August, a man who was arrested with heroin, gold and cash, was critically injured after police fired on when he tried escaping from their custody. The incident took place in Kamrup Metropolitan district.
A huge consignment of heroin worth Rs. 8 crore was seized and five people were arrested by police in two separate operations in Karbi Anglong and Karimganj districts.
