MANGALDAI: Ojapali-a performing folk culture which is an integral part of Darrangi culture of Darrang district- has two different performing forms. One is Sukananni Ojapali and the other is known as Byas Ojapali.

Few days back, on seeing the poor plight of the Sukananni Ojapali performers, particularly in view of the countrywide lockdown, Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das took a special initiative to offer essential food commodities, sanitizers, masks and even financial help to 250 performers of Sukananni Ojapali of both Darrang and Udalguri districts.

Taking one more positive step to encourage and inspire the performers of Byas Ojapali, Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das this time has again come forward with a helping hand for the performers of Byas Ojapali. At a function organized at Nabajyoti Girls High School at Aulachowka recently while maintaining social distancing, legislator Das offered packets of essential food items, biscuits, masks, hand sanitizers to about 200 Byas Ojapali performers of the district. Office bearers of district BJP and Gaon Panchayat president Bhupen Deka accompanied the legislator.
