IMPHAL: In a collaborative effort, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police achieved a significant victory in their fight against drug smuggling along the Assam-Manipur border. On January 5, acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces launched a joint operation to counter the rising threat of miscreants exploiting the current internal situation in Manipur to engage in illicit activities, particularly the smuggling of contraband and drugs across state borders.
The operation, strategically executed amidst the challenging circumstances, resulted in the recovery of 1.137 kg of the psychotropic drug WY tablets. The approximate market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be Rs 1.5 Crore. Sources reveal that the apprehended miscreant, involved in the illegal drug trade, along with the confiscated drugs, was promptly handed over to the Jiribam Police.
