Mankachar Block Panchayat Gets New President

Out of the total 15 members representing each of the villages, 12 were present for the meeting.

MANKACHAR: The Mankachar Block Panchayat comprises of a total of fifteen villages in the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state of Assam. Nargis Khan has been elected as the new president of this panchayat on Wednesday.

It can be noted that on April 11, a non-confidence vote was passed against the previous president of the panchayat. Following this, the committee was disbanded on April 19 by the competent authorities, making way for the new one.

The new panchayat was constituted in a meeting held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office of the South Salmara Mankachar District of the state of Assam. Out of the total 15 members representing each of the villages, 12 were present for the meeting. The members present in the meeting elected the representative of the Jalchar village as the president. The newly elected president named Nagris Khan is affiliated with the AIUDF political party.

In an incident that took place about a month back, a massive fire broke out in the South Salmara of Assam and the fire gutted several houses leading to the damage of property worth lakhs of rupees. According to reports, a total of eight houses were entirely gutted by the fire. The damages to the property are said to be worth about Rs 30 lakhs. The incident took place in the Satdubi Kolabagan locality of the South Salmara Constituency of Assam.

The fire is said to have originated at the residence of Bakkar Ali. It then spread to the residences of Abul Hussain, Amjat Ali and Sajed Ali and gutted the materials inside the houses. A leakage from a cooking gas cylinder has been named as the source of the leakage. The fire was doused by the local people which prevented it from spreading further.
