TEZPUR: The Sector Headquarter Tezpur, Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) carried out massive plantation drive by planting more than 1,500 tree saplings at Kalitagaon, Bihaguri and in the ITBP campus.
During the drive, Girish Chandra Purohit, DIG, Sector Headquarter, Tezpur was accompanied by Dr. Deepak Kumar Pandey, Commandant, Sector HQ, Tezpur, Sanjay Kumar Second-in-Command, 55 Battalion, water wing and other senior officials of ITBP.
As chief guest addressing the villagers and ITBP personnel, Girish Chand Purohit said that the plants contribute to the environment in a great way as they provide oxygen, improve air quality, preserve soil and conserve water. He emphasized that people from all walks of life should come forward in this noble cause and help in enhancing the green cover of the district. He also said that such events would also be organized in different places of Assam and awareness programmes regarding plantation and environment would also be held in future. The president, vice-president, gaon burha, secretary and youths, children of Kalita Gaon took part in this plantation drive.
