TINSUKIA: Activists of the Doomdooma branch of the Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA) registered a massive protest against Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) in front of its PP Factory on Friday for non-fulfilment of employment commitments.

The ATTSA activists informed the media that HUL established its PP factory way back in 2000 after uprooting several bighas of tea plantation of Raidang Tea Estate and subsequently the company announced that the educated unemployed people of the garden would be given priority in employment. In contrary to its commitment, the management employed a huge number of outsiders at the behest of political leaders during past 22 years, the ATTSA alleged. The ATTSA leaders submitted a 8-point charter of demands to the factory authority and also threatened to launch vigorous agitation if their demands were not fulfilled immediately, the leaders told the media.
