Five held with fake Indian currency notes

NAGAON: The main mastermind of the Batadroba incident - Ashikul Islam was finally arrested from a hideout in Nagaon town by Special Investigative Team (SIT) on Sunday. He was absconding from police since the arson of Batadroba PS, sources added.
Sources claimed that Ashikul was the main culprit behind the plan and conspiracy to arson Nagaon Batadroba PS just after the custodial death of a youth under mysterious circumstances in the PS. He was one among those who provoked the irate mob to set it on fire that day, sources said adding that he is a resident of Sunaibera in greater Juria area.
On the other hand, a police team from Nagaon town police and Jajori police busted a gang of fake Indian currency dealers near at Nagaon Borghat bypass Chariali on Sunday while the gang was on the way to Meghalaya from Hojai. Police arrested five members, including two girls hailing from Meghalaya, and also seized a vehicle bearing registration number ML 05U 9020 and several bundles of fake Indian currency notes, estimated to be worth over Rs 5 lakh from the gang, sources said.
Sources claimed that based on a secret inputs, a police team led by Town Sub Inspector Ashyut Phukan and officer in-charge of Jajori PS Abhajyoti Rabha set up a roadside police checking point near Borghat bypass Chariali on Sunday. During the checking, the vehicle in which the gang was coming directly hit a police vehicle and tried to escape when police signalled it to stop.
In the meantime, the police chased the gang and were able to intercept it on the NH 37 bypass road after a while. Meanwhile, police registered a case in this regard and further investigation is on, sources added further.
