Media workshop on child rights held at Kokrajhar Press Club

A media workshop on ‘Suraksha- Providing children a protective environment to develop their full potential’

KOKRAJHAR: A media workshop on 'Suraksha- Providing children a protective environment to develop their full potential' was organized jointly by the UNICEF, Assam and Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) here at Kokrajhar Press Club on Thursday.

Attending as resource person, senior journalist Mrinal Talukdar sensitized the local media about what the media would and would not do when reporting on any child case. He explained good and bad practices in terms of reporting as well as related legal provisions with examples.

In his speech, ASCPCR member Phanindra Bujarbarua briefed the media on the activities of the State Commission for the protection of children's rights and urged the media persons to protect the rights of children when reporting news on children. Dibyajyoti Sarma, Legal Advisor, ASCPCR, also shared the various legal provisions of the commission for the protection of rights of children.

A media handbook on guidelines to be followed by the media persons in safeguarding and promoting the rights of children was also distributed among the participants during the programme.

The workshop was attended by about 50 media persons from both the print and electronic media from Kokrajhar, Gossaigaon and Dotma Press Clubs under Kokrajhar district.
