Meeting of District-level Narco Coordination Centre committee held in Nagaon

The monthly meeting of the District-level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee for the month of August was held on Thursday at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office of Nagaon here.

NAGAON: The monthly meeting of the District-level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee for the month of August was held on Thursday at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office of Nagaon here.

District Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah chaired the meeting. Additional District Commissioner Lakshya Jyoti Das informed the gathering about the purpose of the meeting and opened discussion on various issues related to the menace of drug addiction, areas of concern, age groups of addicts, hot spots of drug peddling, drug abuse and other such related topics in the context of Nagaon district. A draft SOP on tackling the menace of drugs in the district was presented where the formation of a Circle Level Committee to fight the above-mentioned issues was also mentioned and suggestions were asked from the present members.

The District Commissioner in his remarks emphasized curbing the demand and supply of drugs. He said that along with rehabilitation and police action, the role of society as a whole is of paramount importance in tackling the growing menace of drug abuse among youths including children.

Additional SP of Nagaon Partha Protim Saikia, Circle Officers, BDOs, representatives from NYK, civil society, NGOs and other stakeholders and officials were present in the meeting.
