Memorial meeting held on the occasion of 104th birth anniversary of Taranath Sarma

The 104th birth anniversary of Taranath Sarma, a freedom fighter and a social reformer of greater Samar Dalani area, was held with a day-long programme in an auditorium of Dakhin Nagsankar HS with Phaninra Upadhayaya in the chair.

JAMUGURIHAT: The 104th birth anniversary of Taranath Sarma, a freedom fighter and a social reformer of greater Samar Dalani area, was held with a day-long programme in an auditorium of Dakhin Nagsankar HS with Phaninra Upadhayaya in the chair.

The day-long programme organized by Taranath Sarma Memorial Library, began with hoisting of flag by Phaninra Upadhayaya, the president of the library committee. The memorial session began with lighting of earthen lamps of floral tributes by Homnath Dhakal and Dharmananda Sarma respectively.

The Gita was read out by Narad Upadhayaya in the beginning while Ranjan Upadhayay presented a devotional song. Lila Kanta Sarma, the headmaster of Dakhin Nagsankar HS, inaugurated the session while retired headmaster Chandra Kanta Sarma presented an overview on the life of the freedom fighter. Another speaker, Bhabani Sarma, a retired teacher, presented a special lecture on the social contributions of Taranath Sarma.

Sahitya Akademi's Young Writer Award winner Anjan Baskota was felicitated with a citation paper, gamosa and a packet of books. A special lecture on the topic 'Society, Social responsibility and We' was presented by Tikendra Sarma, assistant teacher of Jamuguri Academy. The meeting was also addressed by Hemsagar Sarma, Premlal Dahal, Amit Baskota, Punyada Devi and Mahesh Khatioda.
