‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign to recall forgotten heroes of Northeast India

Tezpur University is all set to observe ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign in line with the spirit of public participation (Janbhagidari) and to honour the brave souls who fought for India’s freedom.

TEZPUR: Tezpur University is all set to observe ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign in line with the spirit of public participation (Janbhagidari) and to honour the brave souls who fought for India’s freedom. The campaign is to be organized during August 9-August 14, 2023.

As part of the campaign, the University has already started a plantation programme in five adopted villages of the University, i.e Napaam, Amolapam, Adabari, Harigaon, and Jhawani in Sonitpur district. The University shall also organize a play to portray the pain and struggle of people of Northeastern region, who had sacrificed their lives in the freedom movement. There shall also be an extempore speech and debate competition on unsung heroes of the north-eastern region. The purpose of the play is also to recall all those martyrs from the Northeast, who have sacrificed their life but are forgotten today.

Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, expressed his enthusiasm for the event stating, “Meri Maati Mera Desh is not just a celebration, but a platform for fostering a strong sense of national pride, cultural appreciation, and community engagement. We believe that by coming together to celebrate our shared heritage, we can contribute to the preservation and promotion of our cultural richness.”

The campaign shall include a host of other activities such as pottery and sculpture making programme, pledge taking ceremony using earthen diya (oil lamp) and singing of ‘Mitti Anthem’.
