Microfinance cheques handed over in Karimganj district

Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Thursday handed over cheques to the beneficiaries in Karimganj district under Assam Micro Finance Incentive and Relief Schemes.

SILCHAR: Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Thursday handed over cheques to the beneficiaries in Karimganj district under Assam Micro Finance Incentive and Relief Schemes. Rs 3,19,13, 926 was disbursed among 1873 beneficiaries by Baruah in a meeting held at Karimganj District Library. Speaking on the occasion, Baruah said, no other State government had ever thought of such a unique scheme to help the poor women. The present government in Assam led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had pioneered in assisting the weaker section of the society. Baruah said, before the elections, the party had assured that if voted to power, the BJP government would provide relief to the female borrowers of micro finance schemes. The first phase of relief distribution under this scheme was already complete and now the second phase was under process, informing this Baruah said, he would distribute cheques in all the three districts of Barak Valley.

Apart from local BJP leaders, the meeting, presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav, was attended by opposition MLAs like Siddeque Ahmed of South Karimganj and Abdul Aziz of Badarpur. Siddeque who was expelled from Congress after he allegedly cross voted in favour of ruling party candidate in Rajya Sabha election, was all praise for Himanta Biswa Sarma as he claimed under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Assam was heading towards the coveted list of most developed states in the country.

Earlier on the day, Baruah, who is also the Guardian Minister of Cachar and Hailakandi, reached Silchar on a three day tour. The first ever Cabinet meeting would be held in Silchar on November 11. Baruah said, the preparation for the ensuing Cabinet meeting had already started. The first ever cabinet meeting would definitely bring some good news for the Valley, he hinted.

After wrapping up the cheque distribution programme in Karimganj, Baruah reached Hailakandi. He held a series of meeting with various departments to monitor the progress of development schemes.
