Minister Ajanta Neog distributes financial incentives to AMFIRS beneficiaries

KOKRAJHAR: Finance and Social Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog said, "According to the promise made to free all the debts of women under various micro finance companies by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in the run-up to elections, the State government has decided to earmark Rs 7,500 crore through a cabinet decision immediately after the formation of government in the State." She said this at Kajalgaon in Chirang district while distributing cheques to the category-1 eligible beneficiaries of Assam Micro Finance Incentives and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS) in the presence of Urkhao Gwra Brahma, minister for Handloom and Textile, Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Bodoland and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro and other dignitaries.

This programme was organized by the Finance Department of government of Assam and Chirang district administration. On the occasion, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog formally handed over cheques to 12 beneficiaries out of 10,472 indebted women of AMFIRS. Addressing the gathering as a chief guest of the programme, she said such kind of schemes of the Assam government for giving financial relief to all loan indebted women was noteworthy in the country. She called upon all the women present for proper use of loan amount and to repay timely the borrowed remaining amounts to the respective financial institutions. The minister also informed that since November 26, 2021, Assam government had been providing cheques through AMFIRS to all women who had availed loans from micro finance companies in different districts of Assam.

In his speech, minister for handloom and textile, sericulture, soil conservation and welfare of Bodoland Urkhao Gwra Brahma lauded the steps taken by the State government as well as Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for providing relief from micro finance loans to the women who were unable to repay the loans due to various reasons.

On the occasion, BTR Chief Pramod Boro apprised that Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) based mothers' club would be formed within the region from January next year for social change.

The programme, in which welcome address was given by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, was also graced by Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary, BTR Executive Members Ranjit Kumar Basumatary, Wilson Hasda, MCLA Madhab Chandra Chetry, and other officials of district administration.
