Minister Ajanta Neog inspects flood-hit areas of Sonitpur district

Minister for Finance, Women and Child Development, Ajanta Neog on Saturday visited several places affected by the recent floods

TEZPUR: Minister for Finance, Women and Child Development, Ajanta Neog on Saturday visited several places affected by the recent floods in the Sonitpur district and took stock of the damage caused to Anganwadi centres and other infrastructure under Rangapara LAC. The minister inspected damaged houses and AWCs at various locations including Bamgaon TE, Bamgaon Model AWC, Dighali, Udmari, Hatibari TE, etc. During her visit she was accompanied by MLA Rangapara Krishna Kamal Tanti, Secretary, Women & Child Development Department, Partha Pratim Mazumdar, Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra and other senior officials of the district administration and the W&CD department.

As per instruction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a State-level team has been formed for each district for re-verification of RG proposals against damage of houses and other infrastructure during the recent floods received from the districts, and this team will physically visit each district and reverify 20 per cent of the proposals and the verified houses will also be geo-tagged during the process.

Minister Ajanta Neog has been appointed the Guardian Minister for the Sonitpur district in this regard. The minister chaired a meeting of the State-level team for re-verification of RG poposals at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office late on Saturday evening. The 17-member team visiting Sonitpur district comprised of Secretary, W&CD Department, Partha Pratim Majumdar, Director, W&CD Department, Bibhash Modi and others. During the meeting, the minister reviewed the data collected by the survey team in detail and gave instructions to complete the review process smoothly.

The minister also instructed the officials of the Women and Child Development departments to focus on timely completion of all ongoing construction projects of the department, ensure complete nutritional support for women and child beneficiaries and create awareness in the society about the same and overall focus on holistic improvement of all services under the W&CD department.

Altogether 767 nos of RG proposals covering Dhekiajuli, Thelamara, Tezpur and Chariduar Revenue Circles were sent from the Sonitpur district to the Revenue & Disaster Management department after flood damage assessment during 2022. Of these, the highest number of damaged houses belongs to Dhekiajuli revenue circle.

Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra has assured all necessary assistance for carrying out the re-verification process smoothly in the district and he also instructed the concerned Circle Officers/ Block Development Officers/ Field Officers (DM)/ PRI members to accompany the State-level team during the re-verification process.
