LAKHIMPUR: Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management Jogen Mohan visited Lakhimpur on Wednesday to review the flood situation in the district. During his visit, the minister took part in a meeting with the district administration and other line departments concerned in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner's office. In the meeting, the minister suggested the district administration to remain alert to tackle any adverse situation caused by flood.

He visited the erosion-affected area at Telia Pothar under Telahi Development Block. He informed the media that 100 machine boats had already been deployed in the flood-affected areas across the State and several such boats were on the way to the State from Gujarat.

The flood situation improved in Lakhimpur district to some extent on Wednesday. However, 64 revenue villages under 5 RevenueCircles (RC) of the district are still reeling under flood.

Out of them, 12 villages under Dhakuakhana RC, 30 villages under Subansiri RC, 4 villages under Naoboicha RC, 12 villages under Bihpuriya RC and 6 villages under Kadam RC remain affected by flood. As per report, flood receded from 20 villages under Narayanpur RC while three more villages under Kadam RC have been inundated by flood caused by River Kakoi afresh. A total of 14,904 people, 1,188.80 hectares of crop areas, 5,015 big animals and 2,796 small animals and 4,534 poultry were affected by the present wave of flash flood on Wednesday.
