DIBRUGARH: State Water Resource Minister Keshab Mahanta visited erosion-prone villages Rohmoria and Bogoritolia Kachoni under Lahowal LAC and Jagun village in Naharkotia LAC on Friday. After inspecting the erosion of the Brahmaputra at Rohmoria and Buri Dihing River at Jagun village in Nahaharkotia, he instructed the senior officials of the Water Resource Department to take immediate necessary anti-erosion measures in both the areas.
The minister later disclosed that the Water Resource Department had taken up Rs 8.80 crore and Rs 7.20 crore project for permanent solution of erosion at Rohmoria in the district. Similarly, a Rs 4.33 crore project has also been taken up for protection of Jagun village from erosion of Buri Dihing River at Naharkotia, Mahanta added. He further assured the villagers of both the places that he would discuss both the projects with the Chief Minister soon and would take necessary measures for starting the projects with the advent of winter this year. Rituparna Baruah, MLA of Lahowal LAC, Naren Sonowal, MLA of Naharkotia LAC, ADC Rajib Thapha, and other officials accompanied the minister.
