LAKHIMPUR: Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Minister Naba Kumar Doley gave words to set up at least seven centres to hold Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in Dhakuakhana on November 10 along with the State. He informed this matter to Rajib Baruah, the secretary of the D.El.Ed and B.Ed Qualified Trainees’ Forum of Dhakuakhana on Thursday.
It is notable here that though the State government has taken a hopeful decision in order to hold TET across the State after long period of seven years on the mentioned date, the Education department took no decision to set up any TET centre in Dhakuakhana subdivision in Lakhimpur district. Though the department concerned has covered various towns and places under all the districts of the State, the Dhakuakhana subdivision has been deprived of any TET exam centre. The issue has provoked strong reaction among the D.El.Ed and B.Ed qualified TET candidates under the subdivision.
Regarding the issue, a protest meeting was organized under the auspices of these aggrieved candidates and Dhakuakhana regional unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) at the Dhakuakhana Normal School premises on October 15. The protest meeting, after much discussion over the issue, decided to submit memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya and P&RD Minister and Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley demanding the establishment of TET centres in the subdivision. Regarding this development, a detailed report was published in the October 16 issue of The Sentinel. As per this decision, the forum submitted separate memoranda to the Chief Minister, Education Minister and to the P&RD Minister through the SDO of Dhakuakhana on October 16.
As per information found from the Forum secretary, local MLA cum P&RD Minister Naba Kumar Doley held immediate discussion with the Education Minister and the high level officers of the department concerned regarding the sensitive issue after receiving the memorandum. He informed them about the communication problems to be faced by the TET candidates under the outreach areas of Dhakuakhana due to the non-establishment of TET centres in the subdivision. During the discussion, Naba Kumar Doley proposed the Education department to set up at least seven TET centres in the subdivision. In this regard, it is known that the Education Minister and the officers concerned showed positive attitude to the proposal of the P&RD Minister. On the basis of this development, the P&RD Minister comforted almost 2800 TET candidates under the subdivision by informing that they would be potent enough to appear in TET in their native subdivision without facing communication problems. Notably, the D.El.Ed and B.Ed Qualified Trainees’ Forum stand by their demand of establishing TET centres in the subdivision.
