NAGAON: Water Resources and Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika on Thursday visited Nagaon and took part in a slew of programmes in the small town. During his trip, the minister laid foundation stone of ‘Vajpayee Bhavan’, the permanent district BJP office at Morikolong area. During the stone laying ceremony, the minister initiated the programme in presence of local BJP MLAs Rupak Sarma, Jitu Goswami and district BJP president Abhijit Nath as well as other party workers.
Following the programme, the minister attended the open session of the 200th foundation day celebration programme of Uttar Haibargaon ‘Bornaamghor’ as the chief guest where he informed that Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had donated Rs 5 lakh to the centuries old religious institute. Besides, he also asserted Rs 2 lakhs of his own as donation for the development of the same ‘Bornaamghor’.
Meanwhile, the minister also took part in a meeting with three local organizations of Uriagoan areas like Uriagoan unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Uriagoan Anchalik Unnayan Somitee and Uriagoan small scale businessmen association at Nagaon Circuit House in the afternoon and took stocks about the ongoing protest against the allotment of evicted land of local people by national highways authority of India to one Delhi based businessman.
During the meeting, the minister assured all the stakeholders that the government will make all arrangements to preserve the Uriagoan playground situated at Uriagoan bypass Chariali and also provide the local indigenous people to do small scale business at the vacated land of NH road near at bypass Chariali. In the meeting, MLAs Rupak Sarma, Jitu Goswami, Shashi Kanta Das, DC Narendra Kr Shah, circle officer, Nagaon Ishan Singh were also present.
