BISWANATH CHARIALI: State Water Resource Minister Piyush Hazarika visited the erosion-affected areas under Gohpur and Behali LACs in the district on Sunday and took stock of the situation.

He expressed his deep concern over the delay in the construction of dykes in the erosion-affected areas in Biswanath district. During the visit, Hazarika told media personnel that the under-construction dyke along the Buroi River had to be completed in January, for which an amount of Rs 1.15 crore had been sanctioned. But the contractor concerned had started the work just before the monsoon season began. He also visited the erosion-affected areas at Gangmouthan, Laalpani and the confluence of the Buroi and the Brahmaputra rivers at Batiamari and instructed the officials of the department to take prompt and necessary action in the affected areas to contain flood and erosion during the coming rainy season.

Earlier, Piyush Hazarika visited Chatrang, Paken, Lohitmukh, Kutumgaon and Aliguri chapori in Gohpur subdivision in order to review the measures adopted for flood control there. He was accompanied by former minister Ranjit Dutta, MLA Utpal Borah, Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, Pranab Kumar Sarmah and other divisional officials from Water Resources Department.
