Minister Piyush Hazarika visits flood-hit areas in Chirang district

KOKRAJHAR: Minister for Water Resources, Information and Public Relations etc., Piyush Hazarika on Sunday visited the Chirang district to assess the damage caused by floods and erosion.

He inspected the erosion site of the river Makra in Bagargaon under Bijni Revenue Circle. It may be mentioned that the flood waters of the Makra, flowing from neighboring Bhutan, have caused severe damage to the daily market in Bagargaon.

Several houses in Bagargaon Daily Bazaar have been already submerged in the river due to the erosion.

The Minister then inspected the PWD road from Bagargaon to Dewanpara, which half-collapsed due to flood. Visiting the erosion site, Hazarika said that the work of prevention of erosion by the river will start from this afternoon by using porcupines and all efforts will be made to save the Bagargaon daily market from further damage.

He also surveyed the erosion created by Chika Noi at Bishnupur Chikajhora.

The Minister was accompanied by Bijni MLA Ajay Kumar Roy and Kamatapur Autonomous Council's Chief Executive Member Gokul Barman.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner and In-charge Sub-Divisional Officer, Bijni, Rahul Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chirang, Ajit Kumar Sharma, other officials of Chirang district administration and officials of the Water Resources department were present during the Minister's visit to the district.
