Minister UG Brahma inaugurates COVID vaccination drive at Basugaon College

KOKRAJHAR: Minister of Handloom and Textile, Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Bodoland and Guardian Minister of Chirang district Urkhao Gwra Brahma on Monday formally inaugurated the vaccination drive for the youths under 15 to 18 years of age at Basugaon College. A good number of college students had taken Covaxin vaccine at today's vaccination programme.

After inaugurating the vaccination drive, the minister participated in an awareness meeting held in the auditorium of Basugaon college with the students regarding COVID vaccination and asked all the eligible students to get vaccinated soon adding, "Once you receive your vaccine, your body begins producing antibodies and these antibodies help your immune system to fight the virus, if you happen to be exposed." The minister mentioned that the district administration had taken steps to provide COVID-19 vaccine to around 6 thousand 15 to 18 years age group people in Chirang district on the first day. He also said, "In comparison to other districts of Assam, Chirang district has a very low number of COVID infections. So far, only 2500 COVID infections have been confirmed in the district. The district has a target of vaccinating a total of 3,42,000 people out of which it has already vaccinated 3,40,000 and the rest will be done shortly. Among them, the first dose vaccine has covered 90.25 per cent and the second dose vaccine has already been given to around 2 lakh people."

The minister was accompanied by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Khanindra Das, Joint Director of Health Services Ratul Chandra Bordoloi, School Inspector Bijay Baishnab and teachers and students of Basugaon college.
