KOKRAJHAR/BONGAIGAON: Assam Minister for Handloom and Textile, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes (BTC part), Urkhao Gwra Brahma on Thursday visited Chirang district and held meeting with the district administration and district health authorities to review and assess the prevailing COVID-19 situation, including action taken activities and future course of action to contain the pandemic in the district in the presence of BTR Executive Member and in-charge of health department Arup Kumar Dey and Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner and chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Chirang, Gautam Talukdar apprised the house about issues relating to recent trends in active cases, deaths and positivity rate, vaccination process, availability of medical infrastructure, oxygen, manpower, home isolation procedures and COVID-19 testing facilities.
In his speech, the minister emphasized the need to ramp up the medical infrastructure to cater to the increasing demand for COVID beds, ICUs, including oxygen. He also stressed the need to make available COVID vaccine for the people living along the Indo-Bhutan area by giving them all relevant information on COVID-19.
Expressing satisfaction over the action so far taken by the district administration and district health society on the containment of COVID-19 pandemic in the district, he further asked the Chirang Deputy Commissioner to ensure all out efforts to vaccinate all the permitted age-group people, to keep maintaining sufficient stock of oxygen, availability of beds and for further augmentation of testing facilities and timely availability of test results.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Anupam Deka (ADC in-charge, health), Ringkhang Mashahary and other senior officials of district health department.
