Mising community demands to declare State holiday on Ali-Aye-Ligang festival

LAKHIMPUR: The people of the Mising community reiterated their long-pending demand to declare State holiday on Ali- Aye-Ligang festival. This demand was raised by the people of the community living in the larger Pakania area under Telahi Development Block in Lakhimpur district while organizing the concluding ceremony (Lilen) of Ali-Aye-Ligang on Wednesday.

The event was organized by Ranganoiporia Central Ali-Aye-Ligang Lilen Committee on Tuesday and Wednesday at Pakania with a two-day long agenda. Inaugurating the open session of the concluding ceremony of the event, promising poet Meghram Payeng expressed vehement resentment for not declaring State holiday on Ali-Aye-Ligang during the 72-year long post-Independence period. He termed this attitude on the part of the government as a clear reflection of negligence towards the community, which is the second-largest ethnic tribe of the State, and demanded the government to take immediate step to resolve the issue.

On the other hand, the Mising community youths from at least 20 villages of the area celebrated the two-day long event by performing their folk dances Gomrag Soman, Atour Soman, Kaban, Dom Dom Mrinsunam and folk songs like Oi Nitom Anu Nitom, Lereli, Cellia.

On the concluding day, Lilen was performed by Migang Gojendra Payeng and Rashtriya Krishi Karman Award winner progressive farmer Hemkanti Payeng. The open session commenced with Dipen Dhapak in the chair while retired bank officer Kebidhor Narah graced the occasion as appointed speaker.

Assistant Professor of Nephrology department of GMCH, Pradip Chandra Doley was present as chief guest while LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das, social activist Jayanta Khaond, journalist Sanjib Borah and many other noted personalities were present as guests of honour.
