SILCHAR: Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of Assam Assembly, who led an all-party delegation of 20 MLAs to have an on the spot study of the situation at Lailapur on Saturday arising out of Mizo aggression and unprovoked firing on the jawans of Assam police and AP Bn resulting in the death of six of them, told journalists, "Mizo aggression has to be resolved within the legal and constitutional ambit." A delegation of legislators would be led by him to New Delhi to seek the support of the Centre in this regard.

The delegation would also impress on New Delhi for a financial grant for infrastructure development in the border areas, the Speaker pointed out. Biswajit Daimary said he led the delegation to know the situation along the Assam-Mizoram border prevailed before the unfortunate incident and how abruptly it worsened to cause bloodshed. After feedbacks at Lailapur, he was confident 'there was no need of firing from the side of Mizoram.'

Members of different political parties who included Akhil Gogoi also committed to endorsing the decision to be taken by the delegation led by the Speaker. This was affirmed by all the members at a meeting held later on at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar presided over by Biswajit Daimary. He appreciated the members of the opposition standing united on the issue. Reserve Forests have to be protected by keeping them free from encroachment.

The members in one voice condemned the case filed at Vairengte Police Station by Mizoram against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, dubbing it as 'quite unacceptable.' They demanded the withdrawal of the case against the Chief Minister. Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Forest etc, was also with the delegation.

Minister Atul Bora also visited Lailapur to gather firsthand knowledge of the sequence of events on July 26 when 6 Assam police jawans lost their lives and the critically injured SP Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakanta had to be airlifted to Mumbai for better treatment on the request of his family members.
