GUWAHATI: The Mizoram government is likely to withdraw the case registered against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Mizoram.

According to reports, Mizoram chief secretary Lalnunmaviya Suwango said that Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga had no approval to include Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's name in the FIR and said that he would withdraw Assam chief minister's name if there were no legal hurdles.

On July 31, reacting to the FIR, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had expressed his willingness to be a part of the probe.

Besides Sarma, who is accused of "attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy," six other officials, including an IG, DIG, and Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, were named in the FIR lodged at the Vairengte police station on July 26.

In response to the FIR, which also included 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel, Sarma said in a tweet: "Will be very happy to join in any investigation. But why the case is not being handed over to a neutral agency like the CBI or the NIA, especially when the place of occurrence is well within the constitutional territory of Assam? I have already conveyed this to Zoramthanga CM Ji."

The Chief Minister said, "I can also lodge an FIR against the Mizoram Chief Minister. We won't allow anybody to take our lands through browbeating. If we stand united, we can sort out many problems. We remain divided among ourselves, others will take the advantage."

Meanwhile, an all party-team led by Speaker Biswajit Daimari reached the Lyllapur area on July 31 to take stock of the situation there.

"We are here to study the ground reality. We have talked to different people. We will suggest the government in sorting out the border problems," Speaker Daimari said.
