MLA Basumatary ceremonially inaugurated the newly-constructed PMAY-G houses built at a cost of Rs 1,30,000 per house at Maktaigaon and Dawaguri in the presence of chairmen of TCLCC, VCDC and leaders of Block UPPL, and others.

Talking to The Sentinel after ceremonial inauguration, MLA Jiron Basumatary said he was happy to see that the PMAY-G houses in VCDCs under his constituency were constructed successfully which would be a great help to the poor families who did not have houses. He said the government had provided the PMAY-G house to every poor family who is able to afford construction of such houses on their own. He thanked the VCDC chairmen in his constituency for completing the construction of houses on time.

Basumatary said the amount for construction of PMAY-G houses was too small to complete the houses in a satisfactory manner. He said the Government of India should enhance the amount from Rs. 1,30,000 to 2,50,000 while expanding the size of the rooms for better accommodation of beneficiaries.

The chairman of Jaraguri VCDC, Hema Basumatary, while talking to this correspondent, said the amount for construction of PMAY-G houses was too small for which the contractors showed lack of interest as they did not get any benefit out of it. She said they had to face many difficulties to complete the houses with such a small amount.
