MLA Lawrence Islary hopes for transformation of Kokrajhar Railway Station

KOKRAJHAR: As part of countrywide programme of the ceremonial laying of foundation stone of modernization of railway stations across the country through video conferencing on Sunday, the foundation-stone laying ceremony was also held at Kokrajhar Railway Station.

After formal inauguration of foundation stone of Railway Stations under Ambrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), MLA Lawrence Islary unveiled the symbolic foundation stone at Kokrajhar Railway Station in the presence of dignitaries and officials of Alipur Railway Division. He also gave away the prizes of art competitions on Indian Railways. Cultural performance by students was also held on the occasion.

Talking to media persons, MLA Lawrence Islary said the Ministry of Railways had taken up a major project under ABSS to upgrade and modernize the railway stations across the country. He said fortunately, Kokrajhar Railway Station was selected for major upgradation under the ABSS which is a welcome move. He hoped that Kokrajhar Railway Station will get a spectacular transformation in the near future under this ambitious scheme.

Islary said there were many unresolved problems at Kokrajhar Railway Station that include parking space, well approaching roads, hi-tech waiting room, proper platforms, public toilets and drinking water etc. He said that along with Kokrajhar Railway Station, Gossaigaon, Fakiragram, Dhubri and Gauripur stations were in the list for major facelift schemes.

The programme at Kokrajhar Railway Station was also attended by BTC EM-Reo Reoa Narzihary, MCLA Rajib Brahma, Registrar of Bodoland University, Dr Subung Basumatary, Sahitya Akademi awardee Padmashree Dr Mangalsigh Hazowary, and other dignitaries.
