GUWAHATI: Congress MLA Sherman Ali, who courted controversy ahead of the last Assam assembly elections 2021 by demanding the establishment of a Miya Museum in the Assam, has created a storm on social media today.

The MLA has uploaded a lungi-clad photo of him on his Facebook account, terming the lungi as traditional attire.

In the caption of the photo, he writes this was captured in the premises of the Assam Bhawan, Delhi. Many friends and followers of the MLA trolled and urged him to pay attention to the plight of the ongoing flood-ravaged people of the state.

While some have criticized the MLA to abstain from creating unnecessary controversy, the others have simply commented that it is his personal matter as to what kind of dress or attire he would put on or not.

Earlier ahead of Assam polls, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lashed out against Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed for saying that a blue lungi will be exhibited at the 'Miya Museum' which he has demanded be set up at the precincts of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati and said he will be sent to jail if BJP returns to power in the coming state poll.

Ahmed had created controversy earlier also by demanding that a 'Miya Museum' be set up in the precincts of the Kalakshetra, a place dedicated to Vaishnavite culture after a standing committee of Assam assembly proposed the setting up of a 'Char-Chapori' (riverine) Museum.

Meanwhile, another Congress MLA Kamalakhya De Purkayastha has now demanded that a 'Bengali Museum' be set up inside the Kalakshetra.

Referring to it, Sarma said he has noticed that Congress is eyeing the Kalakshetra since the protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act when it was damaged.

"Now these insensitive demands are being made...Anybody with a little knowledge of Assam's culture and traditions will not make such demands or statements.
