LAKHIMPUR: Education Minister-cum-Dhemaji MLA Dr Ranoj Pegu, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu inaugurated the Mobile Veterinary Units in Dhemaji district on Saturday.

Providing on-spot service to the farm animals through mobile veterinary units is an aspiring initiative undertaken by the Government of Assam to ensure to bring animal healthcare facilities to the doorstep of the farmers and to increase healthcare access for all domestic animals as per proposal incorporated in Assam Budget-2023-24. The government has issued 181 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) across the State, running with full functionality with a veterinary doctor, a field assistant, a driver and essential medicines with instruments required for light surgical operation to cater to the needs of the farm animals. People can avail the benefits of the service by calling Toll Free number 1962.

In order to inaugurate the service of the MVUs, a ceremonial programme was organized by Dhemaji District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department at Dhemaji Circuit House. In the programme, the minister, MP and the MLA dedicated 9 vehicles concerned for the service of the animals by flagging them off. While delivering a brief lecture in this connection, Dr. Ranoj Pegu hoped that a qualitative service to the animal sector would be initiated under this programme. The programme was attended by administrative officers of Dhemaji, District Veterinary Officer, employees of the department along with other dignitaries.
