GOLAGHAT: The activists of Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti (MMADS) have taken up a series of protests and awareness meetings in various rural areas of Golaghat district against locally-made liquor and foreign alcohol. On Sunday, the activists of MMADS took out a procession in the Oating area against liquor addiction where more than hundreds of female tea garden labourers took part. The protesters raised various slogans against the BJP and the Sarbananda Sonowal government and demanded a ban on alcohol in Assam.
Addressing the gathering, the president of Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti, Prabin Das said, “The Narendra Modi-led BJP government and Sarbananda Sonowal-led State Government are planning to kill our youths by making liquor available in rural areas. Despite the development of the people of rural areas, the government has taken the decision to issue permission for selling traditionally-made liquor openly which will harm the poor families. At present the government is willing to destroy the indigenous ethnic youths by providing alcohol in order to settle the Hindu Bangladeshis.”
Taking part in the protest, the secretary of the organization, Rikumoni Rajkhowa said that illegal local liquor and drugs were destroying the new generation. Various families in villages had been destroyed due to alcohol abuse. Rajkhowa demanded stopping the illegal business of local liquor in village areas. The Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti strongly demanded to make Assam an alcohol-free State.
