DHUBRI: More than 1,000 people embraced the saffron colour and joined the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in Dhubri in last one month.

Recently, 96 persons from all caste, creed and religion joined the party in a meeting chaired by Dhubri District BJP president Dr. Debamoy Sanyal at Jhagrarpar Mandal Office under Dhubri Legislative Assembly Constituency.

The new joinees in the party were not mere individuals but belong from various fields and have social and political standing and identity of their own.

Many social workers including an ardent social worker and president of Kalpataru, an NGO, Suchibrata Singha Choudhury, son of former minister, Anirudha Singha Choudhury during AGP first term in power, social worker leading The Humanity, an NGO, Sudip Kumar Kundu and veteran Congress worker, Devkumar joined the party in a meeting of party workers held at Dhubri District party office attended by Assam State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass presided over by Dr. Sanyal.

Dass who had visited Dhubri district two weeks back while addressing the party workers said that he was overwhelmed to see the spree of joining the party by persons known for their services in the society.

"If this trend of joining continues, it will not be difficult to win 100 seats in the next assembly polls. But there is no place of complacency in the party, so each and everyone from grass root workers to the top brass leaders have to work hard to achieve the target of winning 100 seats," Dass appealed.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri District BJP president Dr. Debamoy Sanyal said that there was a massive trend of joining the party from various political parties including Congress and AIUDF and every other day, meetings are being held across the district and persons coming from all walks of life are embracing the party ideology and principles and formally joining.

Political observers opined that Dhubri being a religious minority dominated district and recent alliance between Congress and AIUDF is not going down well, and conscious people among the minority who were earlier with either Congress or AIUDF is now not trusting both the parties.

" Finding no other option at this moment, a big chunk of minority people of Dhubri district are moving towards the BJP. But it is too early to predict anything positive for BJP as there is a lot of permutations and combinations yet to be calculated in days to come," political observers further opined.
