Morigaon DC urges people to harvest their crops and return to their resettlement areas

The state government has ordered the harvesting of large-scale crops in several areas of Sonitpur and Darrang districts to ensure that the people living in these areas do not lose their crops due to the eviction drive conducted by the administration.

MORIGAON: The state government has ordered the harvesting of large-scale crops in several areas of Sonitpur and Darrang districts to ensure that the people living in these areas do not lose their crops due to the eviction drive conducted by the administration. He asked district administrations to take initiative regarding the matter.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Janata Bhawan on Tuesday in the presence of MLAs from several constituencies of Nagaon and Morigaon districts, District Commissioners of Nagaon, Morigaon, and Hojai, AMSU leadership, and concerned persons. The Chief Minister directed the evicted and already resettled people in various parts of Nagaon, Morigaon, and other districts to cut cotton cultivation on previously encroached lands. However, the Chief Minister also directed that he ensure that no law and order situation arises again. The District Commissioner of Morigaon said the state government is considering the matter from a humanitarian perspective, and further action will be taken within a few days in consultation with the forest department to ensure that everyone can harvest their crops without any confusion. He urged the people to harvest their crops on the date fixed by the administration without causing any disorder. He said that since there is a large area of cultivation, all parties should be careful not to enter other people’s fields and not to cause disputes among themselves. The District Commissioner also urged them to harvest their crops and move to their resettlement.
